The historic Federal Scholarship Tax Credit (FSTC) program – part of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA) signed into law on July 4th, 2025 – is opening doors to greater education freedom for families nationwide — and South Carolina families could soon benefit!

Beginning on January 1st, 2027, your K-12 child could be eligible for a tax credit scholarship and other eligible financial aid.

Eligibility extends to families at or below 300% of the area median gross income — a threshold that includes many middle-income families, and approximately 90 percent of the K-12 students in every state.

Who qualifies for scholarships?

A student must be eligible to enroll in a public elementary or secondary school. Basically, all K-12 students qualify subject to the 300% AMGI limit.

What do the scholarships cover?

The scholarships cover tuition cost as well as qualified K-12 education expenses

When will the scholarships become available?

The scholarships will be available starting January 1, 2027, to coincide with the official program launch. Please note that individual award distribution will be based on the availability of funds for a specific school.
